The Centre for Marine and Offshore Technology Development (CMOTD), established within the prestigious Rivers State University in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, is dedicated to the development of highly skilled postgraduate engineers. Since its inception in 2021, the Centre has rapidly evolved to become one of Nigeria's premiere technical and engineering institutions, specifically catering to the offshore oil and gas industry. Our Centre is a beacon of excellence, renowned for its state-of-the-art facilities, comprehensive training programs, and a team of highly qualified professionals.
National Chairman, Nigerian Institution of Marine Engineers and Naval Architects (NIMENA)
Engr. Dr. Eferebo I. Sylvanus is a seasoned marine engineer and naval architect with over 20 years of experience in engineering, marine operations, and ship design. He holds a B.Eng. in Marine Engineering, an M.Tech. in Naval Architecture & Ship Construction, and a PhD in Naval Architecture from Rivers State University. He is a registered engineer with COREN, a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Nigerian Institution of Marine Engineers and Naval Architects (NIMENA), and a Fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants (FIMC). He currently chairs COREN’s Engineering Regulation, Monitoring, and Enforcement (ERME) Committee for the Marine & Offshore Division. Dr. Sylvanus is the founder of Somatrix Marine Ltd, with expertise in marine consulting, ship design, construction management, and surveys, operating across Nigeria, South Africa, and beyond. He has served as a Principal Technical Consultant to the National Assembly on Nigerian Content Development, highlighting his strong influence on policy and industry growth. He is recognized for his leadership in advancing local content in Nigeria’s blue economy, his contributions to engineering education, and his extensive research publications in reputable international journals.
